Africa-Press – Mozambique. Starting this Friday, Mozambique is hosting its second congress to mark the 500th anniversary of the birth of Luís de Camões, emphasizing the Portuguese poet’s relationship with the Indian Ocean and the Mozambican territory.
The event is being organized by the Eduardo Mondlane (UEM) and the Polytechnic Universities of Mozambique, together with the Macau University of Science and Technology, in coordination with the Camões Institute network in Africa and Asia.
Today’s activities, starting at 8:30 a.m. local time, were scheduled for the Polytechnic University in Maputo, in a hybrid format of virtual and in-person sessions, the organization previously announced.
Camões and Mozambique Island
On June 10, Camões Day, a session will take place at the UEM Archaeology and Research and Resources Centre, in the São Sebastião fortress on the Island of Mozambique, Nampula province.
In addition to debates and presentations of studies and communications about Luís de Camões, artistic exhibitions and visits to historical sites on the Island of Mozambique are scheduled, bringing together scholars, writers, researchers and lovers of Camões’ literature.
