Africa-Press – Mozambique. This is the first major event of the Mozita 50 Jazz Festival, organised by the Italian Embassy to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Concerts, jam sessions, free workshops and unique musical experiences will be on offer in three iconic venues in the capital city: the Maputo Cathedral, the Rádio Moçambique Auditorium Studio and the gardens of the ‘?Parquinho da Sommerschield’.
Mozita 50 Jazz Festival is promoted in partnership with the Moreira Chonguiça Foundation, with artistic direction by Italian musician Enzo Favata and under the executive direction of Mozambican musician Moreira Chonguiça.
The event will feature Italian artists such as: Enzo Favata, Roberto Ottaviano, Lorenzo Simoni, vibraphonist and composer Pasquale Mirra, pianists Fabio Giachino and Vittorio Esposito, who will perform in collaboration with renowned names in Mozambican jazz such as drummer Stélio Mondlane, pianist Lívio Monjane, bassist Albano Gove, guitarist Roberto Chitsondzo Júnior, saxophonist Mahu Mucamisa, trumpeter Inácio Pascoal who make up the band “Fearless Souls”, saxophonist Timóteo Cuche, guitarist Dudú Stalini, bassist Realdo Salato, pianist Nicolau Cauaneque, drummer Cremildo Chitará who make up the “Kuche Quintet” and Moreira Chonguiça.
Over four days, the festival will take place in several emblematic spaces in the city of Maputo, such as the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Cathedral, the Rádio Moçambique Auditorium Studio, which will also celebrate its 50th anniversary on 3 October 2025, and the Parque dos Cronistas (better known as Jardim da Sommerschield), with a diverse programme that includes concerts, jam sessions, technical workshops and immersive musical experiences.
Entrance is free.
In addition to live performances, the Festival will also offer workshops on improvisation, creative direction and other topics related to contemporary jazz. These workshops will be led by Italian musicians and are aimed at students and local musicians, at the Conservatório de Música and Parque dos Cronistas.
