Mondlane Warns of Imminent Arrest Upon Return

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Venâncio Mondlane claims to have information that there is an arrest warrant out for him, to be executed on his return to Mozambique from Europe, where the former presidential candidate, who claims victory in the last presidential elections, is seeking support.

In an exclusive interview with Portuguese broadcaster RTP, Mondlane further accuses the Mozambican head of state, Daniel Chapo, of having a ‘split personality’. Mondlane says he did not put into practice anything agreed upon in their two meetings.

In a recent exclusive interview with Integrity, Venâncio Mondlane said he is prepared for whatever comes his way.

“The next interview might be at the police station. [Laughs] Tomorrow, there are two things that I can predict: in the first interrogation, the prosecutor made a basic and technical error. He questioned me for 10 hours and forgot to tell me what crime I’m accused of. So, he raised the issue: if you interrogate someone and don’t tell them what type of crime it is, then your entire interrogation is null and void. I think they want to correct this, but too late (…).”

According to Venâncio Mondlane, the process will not be easy for the Mozambican judicial authorities. “They’re also dealing with a guy who’s not easy at all. A guy, as they say, is already dead to the world, so it doesn’t matter. If they want to arrest me, they can. I’m ready. If they want to arrest me […] they can arrest me.”
