Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Chamanculo “C” neighbourhood, in Maputo city, will soon have available apartments in multi-storey buildings, in a project by the Maputo Municipal Council and the NGO Architecture Without Borders/Mozambique intended to guarantee residents access to decent housing, resilient infrastructure, and the right to the city.
Two buildings in this project will benefit more than a dozen residents, thanks to funding from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation AECID in Mozambique.
Speaking at the project’s ground-breaking ceremony, Nhlamankulu Administrator Isilda Zandamela said the initiative is part of the redevelopment of Chamanculo “C”, and represents a clear demonstration that “it is possible to build with dignity, sustainability, and inclusion.”
Sara Marquez, Project Coordinator at Architecture Without Borders, stated that the initiative would help reduce informal settlements and create spaces for rainwater collection.
The beneficiary residents say they believe the project represents a valuable asset.
