Nangade: Soldier beats civilian for denying him a cigarette – Ikweli

Africa-Press – Mozambique. A member of the Armed Forces for the Defence of Mozambique (FADM) assigned to one of the units deployed in the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado beat a civilian to the point of unconsciousness in the village of Nangade for failing to give him a cigarette.

The victim, aged over 30 years old, is a resident of that part of Cabo Delgado.

Witnesses say the event took place last Monday afternoon (08-11) when “the soldier demanded a cigarette in an ill-mannered and threatening way”.

After the attack, the victim remained sprawled on the ground in the blazing sun until his family came to retrieve him.

This is not the first time that military personnel have been accused of ill-treating civilians in northern districts of Cabo Delgado.
