Africa-Press – Mozambique. Algeria and Mozambique have signed six agreements and memorandums of understanding to expand cooperation across key sectors including trade, education, and security. The deals were concluded on September 6, during the working visit of Mozambican President Daniel Francisco Chapo to Algiers.
The new accords include a three-year program for cultural and artistic cooperation, a partnership between Algerian and Mozambican public radio stations, and an agreement on information and communication. Higher education and scientific research also feature prominently, with a deal aimed at strengthening academic collaboration.
On the security front, the two governments signed an agreement covering public safety and law enforcement, alongside a memorandum on political consultations.
Algeria and Mozambique share long-standing ties dating back to Algiers’ support for Maputo’s independence movement. Today, the relationship extends to areas such as animal health, energy, and visa exemptions for diplomatic passport holders.
Mozambique has in recent months sought to diversify its partnerships across Africa. In May, it signed a memorandum with Angola on social affairs and gender equality. In August, it reached agreements with Rwanda on security and investment, underlining its push to combine political stability with stronger economic cooperation.
