Matola City Council Plans Building Removals from Basins

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Matola City Council is to send out teams to assess the feasibility of removing buildings built in water retention basins. This action is part of preparations for the upcoming rainy season and will focus on areas that cyclically experience urban flooding.

On the ground, municipal teams are already working to clear drainage ditches, and renovation work is also being completed on others that require intervention.

Matola mayor Júlio Parruque, who provided the information, also said that, in the first phase, the teams would engage with residents whose homes are in the natural path of flood water.

Among those neighbourhoods most affected by urban flooding when it rains heavily in Matola are Tsalala, Liberdade, Infulene, Patrice Lumumba Nkobe, Ntaca, Matola Gare and Nwamatibjana.
