Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambican national football coach Chiquinho Conde announced the 25-player squad for the matches against Guinea-Conakry and Somalia, scheduled for October, the final qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup.
The “Mambas” match against Guinea-Conakry is scheduled for October 9th at the Zimpeto National Stadium in Maputo, and shortly after, on October 14th, the Mozambican national team will face Somalia on neutral ground in Algeria, in crucial matches for their Group G campaign for the next World Cup.
Among those called up, highlights include Geny Catamo of Sporting, Reinildo Mandlava of Sunderland, as well as several players who are playing in the Portuguese league, such as Kimiss Zavala (Marítimo), Diogo Calila (Santa Clara), Keyns Abdala (Chaves), Pedro Santos (Caldas), and Witi (Witness Quembo) (Nacional), among others.
The national team captain, Dominguez, was once again left off the list after failing to submit his documentation on time. His absence raises questions about his continued role with the national team, with Chiquinho Conde recently reminding that “no one is above the institution” and that the player’s behaviour “does not contribute to the team’s well-being.”
With two rounds remaining, Mozambique is in third place with 15 points, tied with Uganda in second, while Algeria leads with 19. Guinea has 11 points, followed by Botswana with nine, and Somalia in last place with just one point.
The top-placed team from each of the nine groups will qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, while the four best second-placed teams will compete in a play-off.
