Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican health authorities on Tuesday reported a further 25 cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease, but no deaths.
No deaths have been reported since Sunday, and the total death toll from Covid-19 in Mozambique remains 1,936.
According to a Tuesday press release from the Health Ministry, since the start of the pandemic, 960,837 people have been tested for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 1,702 of them in the previous 24 hours.
1,677 of the tests gave negative results, while 25 people tested positive for the virus. 23 of these new cases (92 per cent) were from the north – 13 from Nampula, nine from Cabo Delgado and one from Niassa. There was also one case from Maputo city, and one from Gaza.
18 of the new cases were men and seven were women. Four were children under the age of 15.
The positivity rate (the percentage of people tested found to be carrying the virus) on Tuesday was 1.47 per cent – a substantial increase on the rates of 0.8 per cent found on Monday and 0.9 per cent on Sunday. The rates on earlier days were 0.5 per cent on Saturday, 0.3 per cent on Friday, and 1.8 per cent on Thursday.
For the second consecutive day, no Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital and no new patients were admitted. The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 treatment facilities remained static at eight – five in Maputo, one in Matola, one in Inhambane, and one in Zambezia.
No recoveries from Covid-19 were recorded on Tuesday, and so the total number of recoveries remains 149,403, or 98.7 per cent of all those ever diagnosed with Covid-19 in Mozambique.
The number of active cases of Covid-19 rose from 89 on Monday to 114 on Tuesday. Over half the active cases are now in the north. The geographical breakdown of the active cases was as follows: Cabo Delgado, 32; Nampula, 27; Maputo city, 13; Gaza, 11; Niassa, nine; Tete, five; Manica, five; Inhambane, four; Zambezia, three; Sofala, three; and Maputo province, two.
The Ministry release also announced that over the previous 24 hours a further 132,913 people were vaccinated against Covid-19. 2,880,161 people are now fully vaccinated against the disease, and 5,773,039 have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
