Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Governor of Cabo Delgado province, Valige Tauabo, has inaugurated the Metata Health Centre following its renovation and expansion, supported by the Aga Khan Foundation.

With the renovation, the health unit now includes a maternity ward, an outpatient clinic, a water supply system, a porch for the expanded vaccination programme, a solar-powered lighting system, and a hospital waste management system.

The renovation of the Metata Health Centre will benefit approximately 11,766 residents of the communities of Metata, Maco, Natulo, Care-Care, and Mariri, in Balama district.

Speaking after the inaugural ceremony, held on Monday, 29 September, Governor Tauabo urged users and healthcare staff at the health unit to make judicious use of, and maintain, the infrastructure and equipment. He further explained that the refurbishment of the health unit is in fulfilment of the health sector’s strategic plan, as part of the Government’s Five-Year Plan 2025-2029.
