The National Migration Service (SENAMI) reported that border movement in Mozambique exceeded holiday season targets, with 540,860 travelers crossing from December 2 to yesterday. This marks a significant increase of 57.7% over the planned target and 76.8% compared to last year, highlighting the busy holiday travel period.

SENAMI spokesperson Carmen Mazenga, speaking to Notícias Online, stated that from December 2nd until yesterday, 540,860 travelers—including tourists, workers, and miners from various locations—crossed national borders from Rovuma to Maputo. This figure represents a 57.7% increase over the planned target of 305,761 travelers.
She further noted that this number is 76.8% higher than the same period last year.
Mazenga explained that, of the total 540,860 travelers, 318,760 entered the country, while 222,100 departed for various destinations to celebrate the holiday season.
She highlighted the Ressano Garcia Border Post as recording the highest volume, with 273,369 travelers, followed by Ponta do Ouro with 62,999 travelers, and the Machipanda Border Post—connecting Mozambique and Zimbabwe via Manica Province—with 30,676 travelers.
The source also stated that, during this holiday period, 332,169 travelers were Mozambican nationals; 92,392 were South African; 47,915 were Malawian; and 30,081 were from Zimbabwe.
Finally, she explained that since yesterday, the Ressano Garcia border has been experiencing peak return movement, with long queues of people waiting to have their travel documents stamped.
