Africa-Press – Mozambique. Five people died in a boat capsizing incident yesterday at Bilene Beach in Gaza Province. Among the victims were three children, aged 8 and 10.
The accident occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Lake Uembje, specifically in the Mukumbura area, involving an unregistered fiberglass-hulled boat equipped with two outboard motors.
The vessel was operated by a 52-year-old Mozambican citizen and is believed to have been carrying approximately 16 people onboard.
Some victims succumbed to their injuries en route to the hospital. All deceased individuals were residents of Maputo and were at the site for leisure purposes.
Overloading of the vessel, combined with the operator’s lack of boating proficiency, are cited as the likely causes of the accident.
The suspect is currently in custody at the Bilene Beach Police Station pending investigation and further legal proceedings.
