Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambican and Malawian authorities are stepping up joint actions to curb criminal activities affecting both countries along their shared border, particularly in the locality of Zóbuè, in Moatize district, central Tete province, and in Muanza, in neighboring Malawi.
To this end, authorities from Zóbuè and their Malawian counterparts in Muanza hold regular meetings aimed at designing strategies to halt various violations of legal norms.
The deputy head of the Zóbuè Administrative Post, João Rato, identified the main concerns as illegal immigration, theft of property, unlawful driving along the shared border, among other offences.
João Rato also explained that the intensification of meetings is driven by the need to strengthen cooperation with the new government currently in office in Malawi.
According to the official, the results achieved so far point to significant improvements for the populations of Zóbuè and Muanza. “The relationship is good. As Malawi has a new government, they came here to introduce the new Border Guard commander and the entire administrative structure of Muanza district. There is always coordination with us,” he said, adding that “we recently held a meeting in which we strengthened information sharing, particularly among the police, migration, and health sectors.”
