Africa-Press – Mozambique. The National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE) in Gaza, in collaboration with other public and private institutions, began on Monday digging pits near the landfill site in the Patrice Lumumba neighbourhood, on the outskirts of Xai-Xai. The pits are intended to bury or incinerate food products that had deteriorated due to flooding and were removed from various commercial establishments affected by the disaster in the lower part of the city.

According to the INAE Delegate, Mirna Cossa, the measure follows attempts by some residents to seize products unloaded at the landfill site for their own consumption.

“In view of the situation, INAE decided to strengthen control measures by ordering the immediate burial of deteriorated products, in order to prevent them from circulating again or being consumed by the population. To this end, we are digging pits to ensure that the products are properly covered and rendered unusable,” Cossa stressed.

She urged the public to refrain from collecting or consuming any products originating from flood-affected areas, warning that these may cause food poisoning and other health complications.
