The Commander-General of the Polícia da República de Moçambique, Joaquim Adriano Sive, launched ‘Operation Easter-2026’ aimed at enhancing security during the Easter period. The operation, running until April 12, 2026, involves multiple agencies to ensure public safety, reduce clearance times at borders, and combat illegal activities.

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Commander-General of the Polícia da República de Moçambique (PRM), Joaquim Adriano Sive, presided over the launch ceremony of “Operation Easter-2026” on Friday (27 March) at the Customs facilities in Maputo province.

The operation will run until 12 April 2026, during the Easter period, at border crossings and control posts nationwide.

The campaign involves the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), the National Migration Service (SENAMI), the Fire Brigade or Serviço Nacional de Salvação Pública (SENSAP), the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC), the Mozambican Red Cross, the National Road Transport Institute (INATRO), the Ministry of Labour, Gender and Social Action (MITIGAS), the Ministry of Health (MISAU), the National Inspectorate of Economic Activities (INAE), and the Municipal Police.

According to the Commander-General, five specific objectives have been set to achieve the operation’s goals.

These include reducing the clearance time for people and their belongings; reinforcing police presence at border posts, urban centres, and surrounding areas; raising public awareness on traffic rules and safety measures; and strengthening prevention and combat measures against smuggling, terrorism, illegal immigration, and ensuring public order, security, and peace throughout the country.

In his address, Sive also urged all involved parties to enhance vigilance to prevent, in a timely manner, any attempts to disturb public order.

Mozambique has faced various challenges related to public safety and security, particularly during holiday periods when travel increases. The government has implemented operations like ‘Operation Easter’ to address these issues, focusing on collaboration among different agencies to ensure effective enforcement of laws and regulations. Such initiatives are crucial in maintaining order and preventing illegal activities, especially in border areas where vulnerabilities are heightened during peak travel times.
