In his speech on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Republic, the speaker stated that his presence among the Sahrawi people is an expression of solidarity and support, noting that the two countries share historical ties dating back to the early 1980s.

The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, received at the guest residence in Auserd Wilaya high-level foreign delegations who came to join the Sahrawi people in commemorating the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Republic, in a step reflecting the diplomatic standing of the Sahrawi state on the international stage.

The presidential activity began with the reception of official delegations from the African continent, embodying the depth of historical ties and shared struggle. The first to be received was the South African delegation, which reaffirmed its country’s firm and principled position in support of the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence.

For its part, the Mozambican delegation emphasized the continuation of advocacy for the Sahrawi cause in continental and international forums, considering it a just decolonization issue.

In a moment of loyalty and appreciation, the President of the Republic granted a special reception to prominent activist and human rights defender Pierre Galand, awarding him the Medal of the Republic—the highest honor conferred by the Sahrawi state. This decoration comes in recognition of his significant struggle and efforts in defending human rights in the occupied territories, and his unwavering support for the Sahrawi people during the most difficult times, serving as a voice for justice and a messenger of freedom to the world.

Today, an ANC delegation led by First Deputy Secretary-General Nomvula Mokonyane met with H.E President Brahim Ghali, conveying revolutionary congratulations to the people of Western Sahara on the 50th anniversary of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.

The Sahrawi Republic, proclaimed in 1976, has been at the center of a long-standing conflict over Western Sahara, a territory claimed by both the Sahrawi people and Morocco. Mozambique has historically supported liberation movements across Africa, aligning itself with the Sahrawi cause as part of its broader commitment to decolonization and human rights. The recent reaffirmation of solidarity by Mozambique’s Minister of Health underscores the ongoing diplomatic relations and shared struggles between the two regions.
