The Minister of Labour, Gender and Social Action, Ivete Alana, has announced that all public and private sector workers in Mozambique who practice Islam will receive special leave on March 20, 2026, for the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration. This decision allows for a nationwide observance of the holiday, although certain essential services may continue to operate as specified in the regulations.

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Minister of Labour, Gender and Social Action, Ivete Alana, has granted tolerância de ponto (special leave) to all public and private sector workers who practise the Muslim religion nationwide on 20 March 2026, on the occasion of the Eid‐ul‐Fitr celebration.

However, the right to suspend work does not apply to workers engaged in activities that, by their nature, cannot be interrupted, as provided under No. 2 of Article 3 of the Regulations on Tolerâncias de Ponto.

Eid-ul-Fitr is a significant religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide, marking the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting. In Mozambique, the government recognizes the importance of this celebration for the Muslim community, which is an integral part of the country’s diverse cultural landscape.
