This performance embodies the company’s commitment to contribute to the inclusive socio-economic development of Mozambique, where Galp has been operating for 64 years.

The protocol with the non-governmental organisation Helpo concerns the renewal, for another three years, of the “Educate for the Future” initiative, implemented by Helpo with the financial support of the Galp Foundation, through which this NGO has since 2019 been promoting the education of children and young people in São Tomé and Príncipe and Mozambique.

For Carlos Almeida, Helpo’s Project Coordinator in Mozambique, this renewing of trust means “another investment in the education of these young people. Galp’s objective is not to paint young people’s dreams in orange, but to fill these young people’s dreams with prospects for the future. Together, we’re going to make it.”

At the same time, Andy Brown formalised the renewal of Galp’s support for Plataforma Makobo, the Mozambican solidarity association responsible for the “Missão Coração Solidário Cabo Delgado” project centred in Pemba, where most of the families displaced by the insurgency in Cabo Delgado province are currently located.

Acting on four fronts – raising products; food support to the most vulnerable of displaced populations; income-generating initiatives for displaced and host families; and promoting the sale of local products to boost the local economy and mitigate the impacts of population growth – the Makobo Platform can count on Galp’s collaboration for another year.

Ruy Santos, founder and director of Makobo, thanked Galp for its renewed confidence, stating that “this support will allow us to go even further and support more families, because the challenges on the land are enormous and the numbers increase daily”, he declared.

As host of the event, Portugal’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Francisco André, underlined his pride, on behalf of the Portuguese state, at witnessing the contribution of one of the largest Portuguese companies to the development of Mozambique, not only through the daily operations in its sector of activity, but also with its generosity towards a sister country.

About The Galp Foundation

The Galp Foundation is a private, non-profit institution created by the Galp Group in 2009 with the mission of serving the community and its sustainable development.
