Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>As part of assistance to internally displaced families, and using resources for the Northern Crisis Recovery Project, financed by the World Bank, the Agency for the Development of the North (ADIN) on Thursday delivered the first 600 of 39,211 agricultural production kits due to be allocated to families in Mueda district, Cabo Delgado.<\/p>\n

The kit consists of seeds (12.5 kg of corn, 15 kg of bean and 2 kg of sesame seed), 150 kg of fertilizer and one hoe per family. It is estimated that the kits will enable families to cultivate an area of 1.5 hectares.<\/p>\n

The hand-over ceremony was led by the Secretary of State in Cabo Delgado province, Ant\u00f4nio Supeia, on behalf of Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Celso Correia, who is also chairman of the ADIN Oversight Committee.<\/p>\n

Secretary of State Supeia said that he expected twin gains from the action taken; firstly, the economic empowerment of producers, through the sale of surplus sesame, and second, the reinforcement of food self-sufficiency through the production of corn and nhemba bean.<\/p>\n

The objective of this project, Supeia said, was not only to grant humanitarian assistance, but also to assist sustainable and integrated development, aiming at the rapid recovery of affected families through agricultural production, consequently improving the general quality of life of the population.<\/p>\n

The ceremony was attended by district government officials and local leaders, including the coordinator of the ADIN Management Unit for Social and Humanitarian Programs, Domingos Junqueiro, the FNDS chairperson Cl\u00e1udio Borges, UNOPS representative Niroshinie Nayagam, and various other stakeholders.<\/p>\n
