Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The majority of people vaccinated against Covid-19 in Mozambique \u2013 53% \u2013 live in rural areas, compared to 47% in urban areas, Minister of Health Armindo Tiago said in parliament on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf the total number of those vaccinated to date, 53% are from rural areas,\u201d Minister Tiago said during a session of questions to the government.<\/p>\n

Minister Tiago was answering a question from the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), the country\u2019s third-largest party by number of MPs.<\/p>\n

The minister said that more than 3.9 million people in Mozambique are fully vaccinated against Covid-19, and more than 6.5 million have received a first dose.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Health pointed out that the government\u2019s aim is to immunize around 17 million people by the end of 2022, that is, all the adults in the 30 million inhabitants that the National Institute of Statistics (INE) estimates as the country\u2019s total population.<\/p>\n

The third phase of vaccination, involving the inoculation of around 7.3 million people, began in October, Minister Tiago added, noting that the National Vaccination Plan was budgeted at around 12 billion meticais (\u20ac166 million).<\/p>\n
