Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Chairperson of the Commission on International Relations, Cooperation and Communities (CRICC) of the Assembly of the Republic, Catarina M\u00e1rio Dimande, says that the Commission intends to gather information in order to influence the government to help in the search for cooperation and investment partnerships to improve the business environment in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

Dimande was speaking in Maputo on Friday (03-12) at a round table with the national economic associations, members of the Federation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA).<\/p>\n

The CRICC has been interacting with various economic associations, Dimande said, who had raised concerns related to issues inherent to the facilities offered to businesspeople with regard to imports and exports, the reinforcement of cooperation partnerships, the attraction of investment in the country, and also illegal barriers faced by the national business community.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, CTA president Agostinho Vuma said that the country was facing several challenges limiting the growth of exports and, consequently, the integration of companies in regional value chains.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat worries the private sector most is the fact that the financial cost of exports, and costs in terms of time, are quite high, corresponding to two and four times the time and the cost of imports, respectively,\u201d said Vuma. \u201cThis is a worrying truth. because it represents a nonsensical subversion of a much-desired economic development,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The CTA president also said that the role of CRICC was crucial in various highly opportune situations at the moment, given that \u201cit has instruments and mechanisms at the level of the parliament to influence the country\u2019s trade policy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Friday\u2019s event, which took place as part of the permanent dialogue between parliament and private entities to strengthen the role of the Assembly of the Republic, was attended by representatives of around 12 national economic associations.<\/p>\n
