Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Secretary of State in Cabo Delgado province, Ant\u00f3nio Njanje Ta\u00edmo Supeia, recently visited Montepuez Ruby Mining (MRM) as part of his visit to Montepuez district, to learn more about MRM\u2019s operations.<\/p>\n

During the visit, in the company of senior officials from the provincial and district government, Ant\u00f3nio Supeia learned about MRM\u2019s contributions in Mozambique. The mining company is the country\u2019s largest exporter in the rubies, emeralds and sapphires category, and the largest tax contributor to the province for six consecutive years.<\/p>\n

MRM showcased to the Secretary of State a recent initiative by MRM\u2019s parent company, Gemfields, called \u201cThe G Factor\u201d \u2013 an indicator of the percentage of natural resource mining company revenue that is paid to the host country government in primary and direct taxes.<\/p>\n

The delegation then visited the mine, where they learned about the mining process, the operation of the washing plant and the latest-generation MRM ruby selection house.<\/p>\n

The visit to the MRM ended with a visit to agricultural land identified for the resettled population, near the administrative post of Namanhumbir.<\/p>\n

There, Ant\u00f3nio Supeia learned that the illegal occupation of land destined for the resettled population had contributed to delays in allocating it , requiring additional measures to complete the process.<\/p>\n

After the active intervention of the Technical Commission for Monitoring and Implementation of the Resettlement Action Plan (CTASR) and the Montepuez district administration to resolve the conflict, land that is currently being prepared by the Mapupulo Agricultural Research Centre was identified and demarcated for attribution to the squatters, a process that is expected to be completed shortly.<\/p>\n

The Secretary of State expressed his satisfaction with the progress of attempts to prevent land invasion, the only remaining obstacle to the resettlement process. Once resolved, progress towards the inauguration can resume.<\/p>\n
