Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>As part of the efforts to mitigate traffic accidents in the country during the festive season, Vodacom Mozambique on December 12 joined the national road safety campaign launched in partnership with the National Institute of Road Transport (INATRO), the Traffic Police (PT), the National Road Administration (ANE) and public and private partners.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the campaign is to alert motorists and pedestrians to the need to respect basic driving rules at a time when road accident rates tend to increase in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cComing together in this initiative, we believe that we can reduce the alarming number of traffic accidents that occur on national roads, and save human lives. The campaign refers especially to the festive season, when accidents increase significantly, but the lessons that are intended to be transmitted are for the daily use of motorists. Road safety is a continuous act, without any expiry date,\u201d said Juv\u00eancio Guila from Vodacom.<\/p>\n

As part of this initiative, Vodacom offered public partners, including the Traffic Police and INATRO, material to support the campaign\u2019s operations, namely, electronic LED signalling sticks, armbands with reflectors, megaphones, flashlights, zebra stripes, cone light bulbs and batteries, all aimed at sustaining the Traffic Police, and to be distributed country-wide.<\/p>\n

Vodacom will also set up advertising signs with messages about road safety on the EN1 between Bobole and Rio Incoluane in Maputo province.<\/p>\n

The campaign includes educating students at Chambone Secondary School, in Inhambane, in matters concerning road safety, in order to help the school community safely navigate the highways there. The initiative will decorate the school\u2019s perimeter walls with illustrative paintings to raise awareness about road safety, add safety markings near the school, and donate light rackets and reflective vests.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of Vodacom\u2019s purposes is to support communities and, with these initiatives aimed at younger people, we hope to raise awareness in this segment to ensure generations of more responsible drivers in the long term,\u201d Guila said.<\/p>\n

Vodacom mounts similar campaigns, aimed at persuading road users to adopt prudent attitudes and behaviour, every year.<\/p>\n
