Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>President Filipe Nyusi has admitted the possibility of the government barring unvaccinated people from public places to stop the spread of the new Omicron Covid-19 variant.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe could at any time limit [the movement of] people who have not had the vaccine,\u201d Filipe Nyusi said, quoted today by the newspaper Not\u00edcias, the main Mozambican daily.<\/p>\n

The president considers the current scenario worrying, and points out that the number of infections has been rising in recent days in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was told a few days ago of an alarming scenario. In a group of 200 people, gathered together in a small place, 133 were tested. Of these, more than 60 were infected,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

Vaccination incentive<\/p>\n

Filipe Nyusi urged Mozambicans to get vaccinated against Covid-19, noting that the country had received \u201ca lot of support\u201d in terms of vaccine doses.<\/p>\n

\u201cI ask that you present yourselves [at the vaccination posts],\u201d the Mozambican head of state urged. Mozambique has registered 1,945 deaths among its more than 153,787 positive Covid-19 cases.<\/p>\n
