Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>A businesswoman from Gondola district, in Manica province, central Mozambique, has been released after four days in captivity, a police source told Lusa on Monday.<\/p>\n

The kidnappers abandoned the victim during a police chase on Friday night. They were trying to leave the city of Chimoio, the provincial capital, Manica police spokesman M\u00e1rio Arna\u00e7a said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey had no room to manoeuvre \u2013 they were cornered. The police closed the entrances and exits of the city,\u201d Arna\u00e7a said, noting that, despite the blockade, the kidnappers managed to escape.<\/p>\n

According to the PRM, the businesswoman was in good health and \u201csays she was well taken care of\u201d [by the kidnappers].<\/p>\n

The police said that work was underway to locate the kidnappers and hold them accountable.<\/p>\n

According to the police, the businesswoman was abducted from her home on Tuesday after the kidnappers threatened the residence\u2019s security guard with a pistol.<\/p>\n

Mozambique\u2019s main cities have in recent years suffered from a wave of kidnappings, mainly affecting businessmen and their families. More than 10 cases were registered in 2020.<\/p>\n

The Mozambican president, Filipe Nyusi, announced in December of last year the possibility of creating a dedicated anti-kidnapping police unit to fight the scourge.<\/p>\n

The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA ), the country\u2019s largest employers\u2019 association, has on several occasions demanded a more robust response to this type of crime.<\/p>\n
