Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Chinese short video application found in play and apple store, Tiktok, has ranked first in the 2021 most visited website list, according to web security and performance company Cloud flare.<\/p>\n

The app which is owned by Beijing based ByteDance ranked 7th last year and was the only Chinese app that ranked among the top 10.<\/p>\n

Tiktok has beaten its competitors like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter which are the most common social media sites.<\/p>\n

A few months ago, the company was threatened with a US business ban under the Trump administration, citing national security concerns, which would have pushed the app into American Ownership.<\/p>\n

US president Joe Biden dropped the ban in June but called for a broader review.<\/p>\n

In September, Tiktok announced it had 1 billion monthly active users, which happened years earlier for Facebook and Instagram.<\/p>\n

In Kenya, Azziad Nasenya Wafula who is an actress, content creator, media host and social media personality is popularly known as Kenya’s TikTok Queen who has been active since 2019.<\/p>\n

Although it is still growing in Kenya, parents are a little concerned about the addictive nature of the app.<\/p>\n

Amon Oduor, 25, told the Star\u2019s Margaret Wanjiru, that he was a little sceptical before downloading the application this year but now it is his favourite app.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love that it doesn\u2019t have ads like Facebook and IG, you get entertainment on a loop, depending on what you love,\u201d Oduor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can stay on the app for hours because it is entertaining, I love anime and comedy, so the app recommends such videos for me. I don\u2019t post there but I majorly use it for entertainment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oduor said his friends post content there, which he also follows.<\/p>\n

\u201cAm big when it comes to creativity, within a few seconds in Tiktok, you can learn how to do things, be educated, have fun and get inspired, so am for it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
