Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique ended 2021 with accumulated inflation of 6.74%, according to the Consumer Price Index bulletin of the Mozambican National Institute of Statistics (INE), consulted by Lusa on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The pace of price rises over the 12 months of last year was higher than in 2020, when inflation was only 3.52%.<\/p>\n

The categories of food and non-alcoholic beverages, restaurants, hotels and cafes contributed most to the rise in prices last year, according to the latest INE bulletin.<\/p>\n

Regarding government projections, the inflation just announced by INE stood above the 5% forecast for 2021, while the 2022 State Budget foresees inflation of 5.3%.<\/p>\n

According to the most recent reports from the Bank of Mozambique, the main risks that could influence price rises in Mozambique are related to the impact of Covid-19 and increases in food and liquid fuel prices, along with constraints in the international goods supply chain.<\/p>\n

The CPI values are calculated by INE from the price changes of a basket of goods and services, with data collected in the cities of Maputo, Beira and Nampula.<\/p>\n
