Researchers in the United States have established that female dolphins have a certain organ that appears rather similar to that present in human anatomy.<\/p>\n

Their study, published this week in the journal \u201cCurrent Biology\u201d, postulates that female bottlenose dolphins have a clitoris that \u201chas well-developed erectile spaces, is highly sensitive to tactile stimulation, and is likely functional\u201d.<\/p>\n

Noting that dolphins have sex throughout the year, \u201clargely to establish and maintain social bonds\u201d, the researchers suggested that \u201cclitoral stimulation seems to be important during female\u2013female sexual interactions in common bottlenose dolphins, which rub each other\u2019s clitorises using snouts, flippers, or flukes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brennan also observed that dolphins\u2019 erectile bodies seem to be quite similar in terms of shape to erectile bodies in humans, the media outlet points out.<\/p>\n

The team is reportedly expected to continue studying the clitoris and genitalia of dolphins and other vertebrates, with researchers arguing that there\u2019s been \u201clittle study of the clitoris and female sexual pleasure in nature\u201d, as the media outlet puts it.<\/p>\n
