Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Brithol Michcoma, a company that produces biometric driving licenses in Mozambique, has suspended the printing of documents, alleging that the National Institute of Road Transport (INATRO) has not paid it for work done.<\/p>\n

\u201cINATRO benefited from driving licenses produced by Brithol Michcoma, and received all the payments from users and holders of driving licenses, but did not pay the amount due [\u2026] in relation to the supply of more than 100,000 licenses,\u201d a press release from the company reads.<\/p>\n

The contract for the production of biometric driving licenses between Brithol Michcoma and INATRO has been in force since 2019, but did not receive the Administrative Tribunal \u201cvisa\u201d required by law.<\/p>\n

According to the statement from Brithol Michcoma, INATRO justified the lack of payments on the grounds that the contract had not passed the Administrative Tribunal, despite INATRO being, of the parties, the only one competent to submit the document to the court.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrithol Michcoma was aware of the vital importance of producing this document and, although it had not been informed about whether or not to obtain a visa from the Administrative Tribunal, it started production, in an attitude of patriotism,\u201d the document adds.<\/p>\n

The company, which describes itself as of British and Dutch origin, makes the signing of a new contract with the Mozambican government conditional on the payment of the debt, adding that it will also suspend the production of temporary driving licenses until the matter is resolved.<\/p>\n

Lusa tried, without success, to contact the National Institute of Road Transport.<\/p>\n
