Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The National Institute of Meteorology of Mozambique (INAM) is warning that a cyclone which could pose risks to the country might form within a week, appealing to the population to stay abreast of weather warnings.<\/p>\n

\u201cA low atmospheric pressure system has formed, which could evolve into a tropical cyclone over the east coast of Madagascar on January 22,\u201d the INAM statement reads.<\/p>\n

INAM \u2013 alongside the other meteorological networks in the region \u2013 will continue to \u201cmonitor the evolution\u201d of the system, and appeals to the population to follow meteorological updates.<\/p>\n

Between December and April, the warm waters in the Indian Ocean, including the Mozambique Channel, are one of the factors that contribute to the formation of cyclones that can hit the Mozambican coast.<\/p>\n

Avoid panic<\/b><\/p>\n

Despite the indications of the formation of a tropical cyclone, INAM deputy director Mussa Mustafa told newspaper \u2018O Pa\u00eds\u2019 that this was not a cause for panic.<\/p>\n

\u201cUp to this point, it is impossible to predict how big a phenomenon this might be, or where it might pass, because whether it develops or weakens depends on atmospheric conditions,\u201d Mustafa explained.<\/p>\n

According to INAM, \u201cthe most important thing is that the population is aware and stays informed about what is happening\u201d.<\/p>\n

At least 10 people have died and another 47,493 have been affected by rains, strong winds and other natural disasters in Mozambique in the current rainy season, according to the latest report by the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD).<\/p>\n
