Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The localities of Nab\u00fari and Alto Maganha, in Zamb\u00e9zia will, on the 18th and 19th of February, hold public consultations within the framework of preparations for the environmental impact assessment (EIA) is relating to the Pebane heavy mineral sands exploitation project there. This week, mining company TZM Resources announced that it intends to start mining and processing heavy mineral sands at its concession in Pebane.<\/p>\n

Classified according to environmental regulations as a Category A activity, the project requires environmental licensing, thus the study.<\/p>\n

TMZM Resources added that, as part of the EIA, a resettlement action plan will be prepared, as the project affects people and their properties as well as social infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Without detailing the number of people affected or the costs involved, the mining company said that the public consultations would take place in the manner established by regulations on resettlement resulting from economic activities.<\/p>\n

The start of heavy sands exploitation in Pebane is eagerly awaited, as it is expected to contribute to the realization of other strategic projects, such as the projected deep water port for heavy sands export. This in turn will boost the development of the area and the country in general.<\/p>\n

Overall, Zamb\u00e9zia province has four large mining companies, two of them based in Chinde and Pebane districts [both with heavy sands projects].<\/p>\n

In addition to heavy sands and tantalite, the presence in Zambezia of other resources \u2013 such as granite in Morrumbala and gold in Mopeia \u2013 has already been established.<\/p>\n
