Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>As part of her working visit to the centre of the country, Mozambican Tax Authority chairperson Am\u00e9lia Muendane on Monday presided over the patenting ceremony of 50 Customs officials assigned to the province of Manica.<\/p>\n

Manica province is an important part of the Beira corridor, and therefore vulnerable to customs risk arising from the flow of goods through it, Am\u00e9lia Muendane pointed out. That is why, she added, \u201cthe Tax Authority has sited the headquarters for the management of electronic sealing and tracking of cargo in transit in this region, in order to ensure greater customs control in transit\u201d.<\/p>\n

In addition to the risk arising from the operationalization of customs clearance processes, Manica province hosts Machipanda, one of the largest border posts in the centre of the country, which connects Mozambique with the Republic of Zimbabwe, and is responsible for collecting 90% of the province\u2019s customs revenue.<\/p>\n

Muendane noted that the administration of this border challenges customs management capacity, especially given the explosion of the informal cross-border sector and its associated illegal trade in gold, precious and semi-precious stones, fuel and currency, among other products.<\/p>\n

This phenomenon is concentrated in the districts of Manica, Sussundenga, Guro, B\u00e1ru\u00e8 and Macossa, Tambara and Machaze, where precious and semi-precious ores are abundant.<\/p>\n
