Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican health authorities on Monday reported just 16 new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease, and a further 155 full recoveries.<\/p>\n

According to a Monday press release from the Ministry of Health, since the start of the pandemic, 1,250,148 people have been tested for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 608 of them in the previous 24 hours.<\/p>\n

592 of the tests gave negative results. Of the 16 positive cases, eight were women and eight were men. 10 of the new cases (62.5 per cent) were from Maputo city, five were from Cabo Delgado and one was from Gaza. No positive cases were reported from any of the other eight provinces.<\/p>\n

The positivity rate (the percentage of people tested found to be infected with the virus) fell from 4.6 per cent on Sunday to 2.63 per cent on Monday.<\/p>\n

Over the same 24 hour period, no Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital and no new cases were admitted. The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 wards remained 15, four of whom were receiving supplementary oxygen. Eight of these patients (53.3 per cent) were in Maputo, with two each in Nampula, Manica and Gaza, and one in Zambezia. No Covid-19 patients were hospitalised in any of the other six provinces.<\/p>\n

No deaths from Covid-19 were reported on Monday. Thus the total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique remains 2,189.<\/p>\n

Of the 155 recoveries, 116 were from Maputo city, 29 from Maputo province, five from Zambezia and five from Inhambane. This brings the total number of recoveries to 218,433, which is 97.2 per cent of all those ever diagnosed with Covid-19 in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The number of active cases of Covid-19 fell from 4,232 on Sunday to 4,093 on Monday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Maputo city, 3,346 (81.8 per cent of the total); Cabo Delgado, 220; Maputo province, 142; Niassa, 140; Tete, 85; Manica, 60; Nampula, 36; Zambezia, 30; Gaza, 22; Sofala, nine; Inhambane, three.<\/p>\n

The Ministry release also reported that, over the same 24 hour period, a further 1,848 people were vaccinated against Covid-19, all in Zambezia, Tete and Manica. No vaccinations were reported from the other eight provinces \u2013 which may only mean that their data from Monday has not yet reached the National Health Institute (INS) in Maputo.<\/p>\n

The number of people fully vaccinated against Covid-19 has now reached 10,268,778, which is 67.5 per cent of all citizens aged 18 years and above.<\/p>\n
