Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Governor of Manica Francisca Tom\u00e1s wants to see artisanal gold mining activity cease during the rainy season, to stop lives being lost to landslides in saturated soils.<\/p>\n

Speaking to communities and miners in the Bandire region, Susundenga district, the governor said she would hold local leaders accountable for the observance of these precepts.<\/p>\n

Those listening to the governor\u2019s advice pledged to interrupt activities, as well as to increase surveillance and denounce any individual seeking to destabilise the country.<\/p>\n

Visit to mourning families<\/b><\/p>\n

Five families in the Sussundenga district whose lost relatives in a mine collapse received assistance in the form of goods delivered by the governor when, in a gesture of solidarity last Friday, she went from family to family, paying condolences.<\/p>\n

Governor Francisca Tom\u00e1s delivered foodstuffs, school supplies, household and other items. The families praised the government\u2019s prompt intervention and material support.<\/p>\n

The collapse of an artisanal mine in the Bandire region on January 31st claimed the lives of five individuals.<\/p>\n

As the images illustrate, the gold mining association there has as many as 350 members.<\/p>\n
