Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Wednesday in Maputo urged the leadership of the police force to strengthen efforts to fight the increasing and alarming wave of kidnappings, often target against business people of Asian origin.<\/p>\n

Nyusi outlined the challenges when swearing into office the new deputy General Commander of the Mozambican police force, Fernando Tsucana, as well as other high ranking Defence and Security officials, namely Eugenio Roque, head of the Presidential Guard; Tiago Nampele, commander of the army; Ezequiel Muianga, commander of the Civic Service; and Messias Niposso, as Inspector of the Armed Forces (FADM).<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are sworn into office at a very sensitive time when more than simply ensuring public order there is also the direct fight against terrorism. In order to assist the general commander in this complex mission, you must engage in the fight against kidnappings, which must begin inside the police force,\u201d Nyusi said.<\/p>\n

Addressing each of the newly promoted officials in turn, Nyusi pointed out that the Commander of the Presidential Guard must serve as an anchor for a sound institutional relationship between the president and the defence and security forces.<\/p>\n

From the new FADM Inspector, Messias Niposso, Nyusi wants full compliance with the legislation about the management of human, material and financial resources and other moves that might prevent the misuse of defence funds. \u201cLead through example and integrity,\u201d he urged.<\/p>\n

As for the Army Commander, Ezequiel Muianga, Nyusi tasked him with the responsibility to take into account the need to keep the capacity to conduct low, medium and high intensity operations according to the scenario.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou must fully strengthen the coordination with the friendly forces or other defence forces in the theatre of operations at various levels,\u201d Nyusi declared. (He was clearly referring to coordination between the FADM and its allies from Rwanda and from SADC (Southern African Development Community).<\/p>\n

The new head of Mozambique\u2019s Civic Service, Nyusi said, must assume the leadership in the reconstruction of the areas recovered from the terrorists, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou must develop professional capacity building for the youngsters in areas where they can ensure the availability of human resources capable of promoting solutions with an impact, intended to improve the living standards of many Mozambicans,\u201d he indicated.<\/p>\n

In addition to ensuring the country\u2019s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Nyusi also urged the newly sworn in officials to show respect for the people and human rights, which must always be their core commitments.<\/p>\n
