Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) on Wednesday detained a 39-year-old citizen suspected of involvement in the recent kidnappings in Maputo.<\/p>\n

Two kidnappings were recorded in April last year, one in the Alto Ma\u00e9 neighbourhood and the other in the Portuguese consulate.<\/p>\n

The individual was arrested as the result of investigative work by SERNIC in tandem with suspects currently detained in connection with similar crimes.<\/p>\n

SERNIC spokesperson Hil\u00e1rio Lole said that 15 individuals are currently detained on suspicion of involvement in nine kidnappings, seven of which were registered last year and two in the current year.<\/p>\n

SERNIC is still pursuing other suspects, now thought to be fugitives in South Africa.<\/p>\n
