Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), Mozambique\u2019s main business association, yesterday applauded the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision to ease [the restrictions] comes at the right time,\u201d said Muhammad Abdullah, CTA Director of Tourism, following President Nyusi\u2019s announcement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the tourism sector, it is a breath of fresh air and a real opportunity for the sector to recover. The end of the curfew, the extension of hours and the increase in the number of people at events have swelled confidence and optimism,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

The official proposes other measures to boost the sector, including implementation of online visa application, digital promotion of Mozambican destinations and the creation of a secretariat for conventions.<\/p>\n

Greater mobility also generates tourism opportunities, he concluded.<\/p>\n

Mozambique has 68% of the population vaccinated, and the country is experiencing a slowdown in Covid-19 cases, after the peak of the fourth wave in early January.<\/p>\n

By Thursday, the country had reported 2,189 deaths from a total of 224,791 confirmed cases.<\/p>\n

Covid-19 has caused at least 5,848,104 deaths worldwide since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the latest report by Agence France-Presse.<\/p>\n

The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.<\/p>\n

The rapidly spreading and mutating Omicron variant, first identified in South Africa in November, has now become dominant.<\/p>\n
