Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The University of Coimbra (UC) has signed an agreement which boosts academic, scientific and cultural cooperation with the Municipality of Quelimane, in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The protocol was signed on Monday (21-02) at the presentation ceremony of the book, \u201cQuelimane, Uma Hist\u00f3ria Cheia de Est\u00f3rias\u201d [Quelimane: A History Full of Stories], co-organized by the UC and the Portugal Mozambique Chamber of Commerce and with the help of European deputy Maria Manuel Leit\u00e3o Marques.<\/p>\n

The partnership between the two entities \u2013 signed on the occasion by the UC Vice-Rector for External Relations and Alumni, Jo\u00e3o Nuno Calv\u00e3o da Silva, and Mayor of Quelimane, Manuel de Ara\u00fajo \u2013 aims to bolster academic, scientific and cultural cooperation in the areas of spatial planning, cultural heritage, environment and health.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe signing of this protocol with the Municipality of Quelimane is another step in strengthening the position of the University of Coimbra as a university central to the entire Portuguese-speaking space. This cooperation agreement will be very effective in bringing the Lusophone peoples closer together, namely in the areas of Environment and Biodiversity and of Cultural Heritage (two UNESCO chairs at the University of Coimbra),\u201d declared Jo\u00e3o Nuno Calv\u00e3o da Silva.<\/p>\n

Responding, Quelimane mayor Manuel de Ara\u00fajo said: \u201cWe have identified some of the areas in which the University of Coimbra specialises and we want to benefit from their experience and knowledge, to improve Quelimane\u2019s municipal management and modernise our public administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ceremony also included speeches by the president of the Portugal Mozambique Chamber of Commerce, Rui Moreira de Carvalho, and the Consul General of Mozambique in Oporto and the North Zone of Portugal, Agostinho Milton.<\/p>\n

The signing of the protocol was followed by the presentation of \u201cQuelimane, Uma Hist\u00f3ria Full de Est\u00f3rias\u201d. The work, organised by Abdul Carimo, Ant\u00f3nio Barros and Ant\u00f3nio Leit\u00e3o Marques, and with contributions from several former Coimbra University students, was presented by Maria Manuel Leit\u00e3o Marques, who also wrote the preface.<\/p>\n
