Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Debt accumulated over the years has forced FIFA to block Maxaquene\u2019s professional licence. As long as the situation prevails, the footballing colossus of the capital will only be allowed to compete in amateur divisions and at training levels.<\/p>\n

The information was revealed yesterday to \u2018Not\u00edcias\u2019 by the chairman of the \u201ctricolour\u201d Management Committee, Domingos Langa, who added that the blocking was automatic under the FIFA connect system, due to the historic club\u2019s excess of liabilities.<\/p>\n

Money is owed to players and coaches as well as other workers. It has been almost three years without some of them seeing the \u201ccolour of the money\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t meet some FIFA requirements, so this year we can\u2019t compete at professional level \u2013 only as amateurs and in the formation layers. FIFA has withheld our licence and we will only be able to rectify the situation by liquidating our debts, something which is, unfortunately, unsustainable for Maxaquene at this time,\u201d Langa explained.<\/p>\n

According to Langa, the debts amount to two million US dollars (approximately 130 million meticais), if one includes the debts contracted with service providers, hotels and for lack of channelling payments to the social security system.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not doing well [financially] and our integrating companies (LAM and Aeroportos de Mo\u00e7ambique) are not in a position to pay these debts. I don\u2019t know how we are going to get out of this situation but we are working to reverse it.All I can say is that our concern, as the Management Commission, is to rebuild the Club and seriously invest in training. We have to analyse what has failed and what can leverage Maxaquene in the near future, forgetting about the past,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

About Maxaquene<\/b><\/p>\n

The Clube de Desportos do Maxaquene, usually known simply as Maxaquene, is a sports club based in Maputo, Mozambique. The club\u2019s nickname is \u2018Maxaca\u2019.<\/p>\n

Currently besides football (soccer) there are two indoor sports namely basketball (CD Maxaquene Basketball) and handball. In such sports Maxaquene is only the club with the most national titles after independence.<\/p>\n

Name History<\/p>\n

Maxaquene won its first post-independence title in football, the Ta\u00e7a de Mo\u00e7ambique, in 1978.<\/p>\n

Prior to Mozambique\u2019s independence from Portugal, Maxaquene was known as Sporting Clube de Louren\u00e7o Marques, or simply Sporting de Louren\u00e7o Marques (Louren\u00e7o Marques being the name for Maputo before independence).<\/p>\n

It was under this name that the legendary Eus\u00e9bio played for the club.<\/p>\n

The club plays their home soccer matches at the \u2018Est\u00e1dio do Maxaquene\u2019, which has a maximum capacity of 15,000 people.<\/p>\n
