Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Food security is threatening Massingir district, in Gaza province, due to the lack of rain in the northern part of the province.<\/p>\n

The situation could seriously affect the administrative posts of Mavoze and Zulo, where more than 3,700 families who practise unirrigated agriculture live.<\/p>\n

Massingir administrator Esmeralda Mutemba says that the lack of rainfall in several communities has meant weak crop growth in the fields, with the harvest in danger of being lost if it does not rain in the next few days.<\/p>\n

As a result, a survey of families who may suffer food insecurity is in progress, to assess possible support for those affected.<\/p>\n

She explains that the government is also telling communities they may need to sell cattle in order to purchase basic necessities.<\/p>\n
