Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Sime\u00e3o Lopes was sworn in by Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Ros\u00e1rio today as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Blue Economy Development Fund (ProAzul).<\/p>\n

Lopes replaces Miguel Micas Langa, who had held the post since March 8, 2020.<\/p>\n

The prime minister challenged the new chairperson to promote and guide public and private investments for projects and priority actions in the blue economy area, and to find resources to finance projects that generate jobs.<\/p>\n

\u201cImplementation of programs and projects that aim to improve the income level of artisanal fishermen and their value chain’\u201d the prime minister detailed. \u201cPromotion of the use of motor boats for artisanal fishermen, aiming to provide them with greater autonomy and safety at sea and, consequently, the capture of species of greater value.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carlos Agostinho do Ros\u00e1rio also urged Semi\u00e3o Lopes to work in articulation with other sectors in order to promote actions that contribute to good governance of the sea, inspection, and scientific and technological research, as well as the protection and monitoring of the marine environment.<\/p>\n

In reply, Lopes indicated where he would start working.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will work towards having a strategy approved by the end of the year. It is a complex process, because it must involve all sensitivities and interests in relation to the sea; it is a strategy of the country and not [only] of ProAzul,\u201d Lopes said.<\/p>\n

The Blue Economy Development Fund has existed since 2019, and aims to promote the sustainable development of fishing and marine sector activities.<\/p>\n
