Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The 18 or so Mozambican students living in Ukraine have left the country after the Russian invasion and are \u201csafe and sound\u201d in neighbouring countries, the honorary consul of Ukraine in Maputo, Ab\u00edlio Soeiro, told Lusa on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs soon as the situation became dangerous, they all left, some through Poland, others through Hungary, and they are safe and sound,\u201d Soeiro said.<\/p>\n

Ukraine\u2019s honorary consul in Maputo said the students would be regrouped in a European country to travel to Mozambique.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir situation is being monitored by the competent authorities and is under control,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Mozambican students in question were attending courses at Ukrainian universities.<\/p>\n

According to Kyiv, Russia launched a military offensive in Ukraine on Thursday dawn, with ground forces and shelling of targets in several cities, which has killed more than 350 civilians, including children.<\/p>\n

The UN reported more than 100,000 displaced and more than 660,000 refugees in Poland, Hungary, Moldova and Romania.<\/p>\n

The international community condemned the attack in general and the European Union and the United States, among others, responded by sending arms and ammunition to Ukraine and strengthening sanctions to isolate Moscow even further.<\/p>\n

\u203c\ufe0f More than 900,000 people have fled #Ukraine seeking safety in neighboring countries.<\/p>\n

At least 28,000 are third country nationals.<\/p>\n
