Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican health authorities on Tuesday reported 16 new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease, and 208 full recoveries.<\/p>\n

For the fifth consecutive day, there were no deaths from Covid-19. The total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique thus remains 2,192.<\/p>\n

Since the start of the pandemic, 1,270,558 people have been tested in Mozambique for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 1,725 of them in the previous 24 hours. 1,709 of these tests yielded negative results. The 16 positive cases brings the total number of Covid-19 cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 225,063.<\/p>\n

Of the cases identified on Tuesday, eight were men and eight were women. Seven were from Tete, six from Maputo city, two from Gaza and one from Maputo province. No positive cases were reported from any of the other seven provinces.<\/p>\n

The Covid-19 positivity rate (the percentage of those tested who prove to be carrying the coronavirus) fell from 1.42 per cent on Monday to 0.93 per cent on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Over the same 24 hour period, three Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital (two in Maputo and one in Tete), and two new cases were admitted, both in Maputo.<\/p>\n

The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 treatment centres fell from 21 on Monday to 20 on Tuesday. 11 of these patients (55 per cent) were in Maputo. There were also three patients in Tete, two in Niassa, two in Manica, one in Cabo Delgado and one in Gaza. No Covid-19 patients were hospitalised in the other five provinces.<\/p>\n

Of the 208 recoveries, 174 were from Maputo city, 25 from Tete and nine from Nampula, This brings the total number of recoveries to 219,638, which is 97.6 per cent of all those ever diagnosed with Covid-19 in Mozambique,<\/p>\n

The number of active cases of Covid-19 fell from 3,421 on Monday to 3,229 on Tuesday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Maputo city, 3,074 (95.2 per cent of the total); Maputo province, 58; Cabo Delgado, 24; Gaza, 17; Zambezia, 14; Tete, 13; Niassa, 10; Manica, nine; Sofala, five; Nampula, three; and Inhambane, two.<\/p>\n

The Ministry release also reported that, over the previous 24 hours, a further 102,380 people were vaccinated against Covid-19. The number fully vaccinated against the disease now stands at 11,131,292, which is 73.2 per cent of all citizens aged 18 and above,<\/p>\n
