Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The new Mozambican Minister of Economy and Finance, Max Tonela, said today that the improvement of fiscal policy will be one of his main challenges in managing the dossier of State accounts.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy first mission will be to work with the sector so that we can improve the regulatory framework, especially economic and fiscal policy, in order to ensure that it is easier to invest and do business in Mozambique,\u201d said Max Tonela.<\/p>\n

The minister was speaking to the media moments after the inauguration ceremony at the Presidency of the Republic in Maputo.<\/p>\n

For Max Tonela, who until the date of his appointment to his new portfolio was Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, the adoption of a strategy that gives priority to improving the business environment is fundamental, as it attracts investors, which creates space for more jobs to emerge and strengthens the tax base.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe intend to pay close attention to the economic aspects and we want to work with the business sector, especially the private sector,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The new Minister of Industry and Commerce, Silvino Moreno, also highlighted the importance of the business environment to attract investment, saying that he will prioritise policies for industrialisation in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to look at the policies and improve what the obstacles are [\u2026] We want to speed up the pace with regard to some changes that must be made,\u201d Moreno stressed.<\/p>\n

The new Minister of Industry and Commerce admits challenges in achieving the executive\u2019s objectives in the industrialization process, especially with the limitations imposed by the lack of access routes for the flow of products.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a constant challenge for any developing country. Roads always need rehabilitation, and rehabilitation means investment. This is a cycle and an ongoing problem. What we have to do is, at every moment, find the best way to respond,\u201c Moreno declared.<\/p>\n

In the post of Minister of Economy and Finance, Max Tonela replaces Andriano Maleiane, who was appointed prime minister within the framework of the reshuffle in Nyusi\u2019s executive, while Silvino Moreno takes up the functions that belonged to Carlos Mesquita, who has now been appointed Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources.<\/p>\n

In total, seven government officials took office today in Maputo, including the country\u2019s new Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane.<\/p>\n
