Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>People displaced from Moc\u00edmboa da Praia, one of the districts worst affected by the terrorist attacks and under insurgent occupation the longest, have been authorised to return to their villages of origin, Carta de Mo\u00e7ambique reports.<\/p>\n

The first displaced persons allowed to return home are those from the district of Palma, specifically those now in the Quitunda Resettlement Village and in Maganja village on the Afungi Peninsula.<\/p>\n

The information is contained in an official letter issued on Friday (March 4, 2022) by the District Secretariat of Moc\u00edmboa da Praia informing the authorities of the District of Palma about the movement of displaced persons in that part of the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Government of the District of Moc\u00edmboa da Praia hereby informs Your Excellency that, as of March 6th (yesterday), it will begin the process of moving the displaced population of Moc\u00edmboa da Praia existing in your aforementioned District, specifically at the Administrative Posts of Quitunda and Maganja, to return to the District of Origin,\u201d reads the document signed by Permanent District Secretary of Moc\u00edmboa da Praia, Jo\u00e3o Joaquim Ant\u00f3nio Saraiva, with number 155\/GDMP\/SD\/019.<\/p>\n

The document does not advance the details of the \u201creturning home\u201d operation, but \u2018Carta\u2019 has established that the authorities of the two districts last week started registering those displaced from Moc\u00edmboa da Praia and now living in Quitunda resettlement village.<\/p>\n

A few days ago, the Minister of National Defence, Crist\u00f3v\u00e3o Chume, assured journalists that the joint Rwandan and Mozambican troops were working to ensure the safe return of the population. Just days later, the authorities ordered the return of civil servants, especially teachers and nurses, to the municipal headquarters town.<\/p>\n

The main town in Moc\u00edmboa da Praia has been deserted since August, 2020, when ISIS-affiliated Mozambican terrorists invaded it, displacing the population and expelling government authorities and the Defence and Security Forces (FDS).<\/p>\n
