Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The African Development Bank (ADB) on Tuesday in Maputo launched a project to use real time data gathering tools to remotely monitor some of the projects it funds in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The initiative aims to ensure improvements in the control and monitoring of projects in areas where it is difficult to gain access, a problem that has been heightened by travel restrictions due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

The Remote Appraisal, Supervision, Monitoring and Evaluation (RASME) tool uses modern information and communication technology (ICT) to optimise the collection, analysis, and management of data. This will be used for the preparation, evaluation, and supervision of projects receiving support from the Bank.<\/p>\n

The data will be collected using satellite technology and smart phones and will be collated by the Bank at the central level.<\/p>\n

At a ceremony to launch the project, the ADB representative in Mozambique, Cesar Augusto Mba Abogo, highlighted the advantages of the scheme. He explained that \u201cthe objective is to improve how the current programmes are monitored. This platform will be made available to all stakeholders from both the Bank and government departments involved in the Bank\u2019s projects\u201d.<\/p>\n

He added that Mozambique was selected as a pilot for the implementation of the initiative, and it is expected that the results and experience gained will be harvested in all areas of intervention including infrastructure, agriculture, and energy so that this can be used in other parts of the continent. He stressed that \u201cthe initiative will completely change our way of working with a view to greater efficiency\u201d.<\/p>\n

The ADB financed its first project in Mozambique in 1977 and since then has focused on supporting projects covering agriculture, transport, water and sanitation, energy, communications, mining, and finance. Its total active investment in Mozambique stands at over a billion US dollars<\/p>\n
