Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) detained five individuals in the city of Maputo a few days ago, three of them for drug trafficking and two for corruption.<\/p>\n

Of the five, three are South African citizens and two, Traffic Police (PT) agents.<\/p>\n

According to SERNIC spokesman Hil\u00e1rio Lole, the three foreigners were found to be in possession of 43kg of heroin when they were stopped by two Traffic Police agents in Maputo\u2019s Costa do Sol early on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

The two Traffic Police agents were reportedly arrested in the act of demanding a R50,000 bribe to \u201cturn a blind eye\u201d to the drugs.<\/p>\n

Lole noted that several false documents used to commit various crimes were also seized.<\/p>\n

An investigation is currently underway to shed more light on this and other crimes.<\/p>\n

The South African detainees deny any wrongdoing, insisting that they know nothing about the drugs.<\/p>\n

The detained police officers also deny any involvement. \u201cWas it me who brought them in?\u201d one of the now-detained Traffic Police agents asked.<\/p>\n
