Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambican businessman \u00c1lvaro Sim\u00e3o Cossa, who had been kidnapped in Kyiv, \u201chas already been released and is at home\u201d, the victim\u2019s brother Boaventura Sim\u00e3o Cossa told Lusa today.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy brother\u2019s son called to tell us that my brother has already been released and is at home,\u201d Cossa said.<\/p>\n

Boaventura Sim\u00e3o Cossa said that his brother is in good health, but said he had no further details on the circumstances of his abduction and release.<\/p>\n

The abduction of \u00c1lvaro Sim\u00e3o Cossa, who works in the footwear industry and has been living in Ukraine for 30 years, w, was reported Wednesday by the counsellor of the Mozambican embassy in Germany, Juli\u00e3o Langa, speaking to public broadcaster R\u00e1dio Mo\u00e7ambique.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with great sadness that we confirm the occurrence, and we also know that our embassy in Moscow has been in contact with the family of the compatriot to provide due support and solidarity,\u201d Langa said.<\/p>\n

Langa did not say where, when or how Alvaro Simao Cossa was kidnapped.<\/p>\n

The Mozambican government said on 2 February that 15 Mozambican students were studying in Ukraine but had left following the Russian military invasion.<\/p>\n

R\u00e1dio Mo\u00e7ambique said that in addition to students, Ukraine also hosts other Mozambicans, whose number is unknown. The last update was made in 2014 when the African country closed its embassy in Kyiv.<\/p>\n

Russia launched a military offensive in Ukraine in the early hours of 24 February that caused hundreds of deaths and injuries among the civilian population. According to the latest UN figures, it caused more than two million people to flee to neighbouring countries.<\/p>\n

The international community condemned the Russian invasion in general, which responded by sending arms to Ukraine and strengthening economic sanctions against Moscow.<\/p>\n
