Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The International Monetary Fund (IMF) began a five-day working mission to Mozambique on Monday, meeting with local officials to discuss several issues of mutual interest, a government source told Lusa.<\/p>\n

The IMF delegation is headed by \u00c1lvaro Piris Chavarres and met today with a team from the Mozambican government led by the new economy and finance minister, Max Tonela, having discussed structural issues such as development projects in the hydrocarbon sector, social protection, the salary pyramid, money laundering, public probity and Value Added Tax.<\/p>\n

The Lusa source said that ongoing discussions between the IMF and Maputo could culminate in signing a memorandum of understanding, providing for the resumption of financial assistance to the African country, suspended following the so-called hidden debts case.<\/p>\n

As well as the minister for the economy and finance, the Mozambican delegation that met today with the IMF also included the new minister for mineral resources and energy, Carlos Zacarias, minister for gender, children and social action, Nyeleti Mondlane, the deputy economy and finance ministers, Amilcar Tivane and Carla Louveira, and the deputy minister for justice, constitutional and religious affairs, Filim\u00e3o Suaze.<\/p>\n
