Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The president of Portugal said on Tuesday that military, economic and cultural cooperation would be addressed during his visit to Mozambique between 16 and 21 March, as he hoped for an exchange of \u201cviews\u201d on the current global situation.<\/p>\n

Speaking to journalists at Belem Palace, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa stressed that \u201cseveral key issues\u201d would be addressed during his trip, starting with Portugal\u2019s cooperation \u201cin terms of military training\u201d to Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The president underlined that this is a cooperation that Portugal has been providing \u201cfor a long time, but now also within a European framework, concerning a Mozambican request, and in which the main protagonists are the Mozambican Armed Forces.<\/p>\n

According to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the European Union military training mission in Mozambique, called EUTM (European Union Training Mission), contributes to the \u201cstabilisation and creation of conditions for the economic and social development of Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The President of Portugal was speaking to journalists after attending a meeting between photographer Alfredo Cunha and 11th-and 12th-grade students from a school in Ferreira do Alentejo, as part of the \u201cArtists in the Palace of Bel\u00e9m\u201d programme.<\/p>\n

De Sousa highlighted \u201cseveral ongoing projects of economic and financial cooperation between states\u201d and between \u201cPortuguese businesspeople and Mozambique,\u201d but also \u201ccultural and educational cooperation,\u201d namely \u201cthe Portuguese school in Maputo, and the collaboration between Portuguese universities and Eduardo Mondlane University.<\/p>\n

As an \u201cadditional justification\u201d for the trip to Mozambique, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa pointed out that the country is \u201ca fundamental part of the CPLP.<\/p>\n

The president addressed Mozambique and Angola\u2019s abstention vote on a United Nations (UN) resolution condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine, saying the two countries \u201chad voting positions that were not exactly the same as those of most CPLP countries, but were sensitive to the idea of not opposing the condemnation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd, therefore, it is also an opportunity to talk about what is the enrichment of the CPLP, the exchange of views, in the current moment in the world,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n
